The Question
Can I use a short reflective motorcycle video to introduce people to the Reinvention Bundle without turning Thinking on Two Wheels into an advertising channel?
The Background
Thinking on Two Wheels began as a place to record motorcycle journeys through Ireland, Kenya and beyond.
However, the channel is about more than motorcycles. The road often prompts reflections on curiosity, learning, reinvention and navigating change.
These themes also appear in my books and practical guides.
After trying several text-based Facebook posts to market Design Your Next Decade, I found that they produced limited reach and no attributable sales. I wanted to test a different format on a different channel.
During a recent journey through the Wicklow Mountains, I stopped at Lough Tay and reflected on reinvention and the possibility of taking another road in life.
That reflection became the basis for my first YouTube Short.
The Experiment
I extracted a short section from the longer Thinking on Two Wheels video and reformatted it as a vertical 9:16 video.
The Short is 1 minute and 7 seconds long and opens with the question:
What if another road is possible?
It combines motorcycle footage, the landscape around Lough Tay and a short reflection on reinvention.
The final screen reads:
Your next road?

The description contains a measured link to the Reinvention Bundle, which includes:
- Design Your Next Decade
- Build a Living Without a Job
- The Curiosity Advantage
I published the Short initially only on Thinking on Two Wheels. I will not post it simultaneously on Facebook or Instagram because I want to see what YouTube produces independently.
The Hypothesis
A short, authentic reflection grounded in a real motorcycle journey may attract more attention and product interest than a long promotional Facebook post.
It may also introduce Thinking on Two Wheels to people who would not encounter one of my longer journey videos.
The Starting Position
At the beginning of the experiment:
- Thinking on Two Wheels had approximately 147 subscribers.
- The channel contained 31 long-form videos.
- I had never previously made a YouTube Short.
- Previous Facebook experiments had generated no attributable product sale.
What I Will Measure
I will record the results after approximately 24 hours, 72 hours and seven days.
The measures will include:
- Short views
- Average percentage viewed
- Viewed versus swiped away
- Likes, comments and shares
- Subscribers gained
- Visits to the Reinvention Bundle
- Sales of the bundle or its individual guides
What Would Count as Success?
The clearest success would be one attributable sale.
The experiment would also be promising if it generated:
- at least 300 views;
- one or more new subscribers;
- three meaningful interactions; or
- five measured visits to the Reinvention Bundle.
Even without a sale, strong viewing and retention could show that reflective Shorts deserve a continuing role in Thinking on Two Wheels.
Why This Experiment Matters
Every longer motorcycle journey may contain several smaller stories:
- a striking view;
- an unexpected discovery;
- a mechanical lesson;
- a reflective question;
- or an observation about learning and change.
If this approach works, one journey could produce both a full-length video and one or two Shorts without requiring a separate filming expedition.
This could help Thinking on Two Wheels grow while creating a natural connection between the journeys I undertake and the books and courses inspired by similar ideas.
Experiment Log
28 July 2026: Created and published my first YouTube Short using existing footage from the Wicklow Mountains and Lough Tay.
24-hour result: To be added.
72-hour result: To be added.
Seven-day result: To be added.
Current Lesson
Learning a new format required some experimentation—particularly converting horizontal footage into a vertical video and creating a natural ending—but it was possible using footage I had already recorded.
The first result is therefore already useful: a long motorcycle journey can be repurposed into a short, self-contained reflection without another ride or an entirely new production.
