Books on the Future of Work 2030

“the clock is ticking.  The year 2030 isn’t some remote point in the unforeseeable future.  It’s right around the corner and we need to prepare ourselves for the opportunities and challenges.  Simply put, the world as we know it today will be gone by 2030.”

Mauro F. GuilleN

The quote at the beginning of this article is from Mauro F. Guillen in his book ‘2030’ which I am reading at the moment (I have included a reference to the book at the end of the article along with other books on the future of work). I think the quote sums up quite well where we are with the pace of change in 2022. The quote is quite stark – the world as we know it today will be gone by 2030! Everything is shifting around us so quickly and we must also keep changing. It is becoming so easy to be left behind by technology.

Future skills 2030

I am currently working on updates and additions to my online course Future Skills 2030-Prepare for the 4th Industrial Revolution. The course needs to be constantly updated because technology and the world around us is constantly changing. The course is a labour of love and I enjoy every minute of the work I put into it. I first launched the course in 2018 and even since then the world has changed so much.

Synthetic media

To give just one example of the pace of change have a look at the video below. It’s a new promo video for my course. The video itself is made using Synthesia which is a web-based platform for creating videos with Artificial Intelligence avatars and voices. You simply type in what you want the avatar to say. Thousands of companies use it to create videos 80% faster than before. Synthesia itself was only founded in 2017 and the area of ‘synthetic media’ is a rapidly evolving field.

Useful Books on Future Skills 2030

As emphasised above, we absolutely do need to keep updating ourselves in a constantly changing world.  I have linked to very many more relevant reports and videos in the Future Skills course.  Below are some additional good books on the future of work which are available for purchase from Amazon and other good booksellers.

2020 a year of massive change

Change was the name of the game in 2020 accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, the future is arriving faster than would have otherwise happened without the pandemic. For example so many aspects of our lives moved online in 2020 such as work, learning, shopping, socialising, entertainment and even worship. Take for example the impact of the pandemic on the future of work and learning. Within a few short months hundreds of millions of people found themselves remote working and learning. The future of work and learning is now blended. That means a mixture of remote working/study and in person work/study. This sudden shift has massive implications for the future. For instance, as a result of the pandemic rents will fall and the market for commercial real estate will weaken. The disruption seen in 2020 underscores the need for lifelong learning. In conclusion, change is happening all around us so we also need to change and grow to remain relevant.

Lifelong Learning

According to Wikipedia lifelong learning is the “ongoingvoluntary, and self-motivated ” pursuit of knowledge for either personal or professional reasons. Change is happening whether we want it or not and we all need to change and adapt or become obsolete. To change and adapt we need a growth mindset and lifelong learning. Therefore make a conscious effort to make learning part of your daily routine in 2021. Set time aside in your daily schedule for learning and study. When you make your goals for 2021 make sure and include goals around learning and re-skilling and up-skilling. Please check out all my courses below but in particular the first two. The first course on goal setting will help you set clear and compelling goals for 2021. The second course ‘Future Skills’ will show you how technology and other forces including the Covid-19 pandemic are shaping the future of work. The course will show you which jobs are in and which jobs are out.
