Personal Strategic Plan – Reflections on Progress

Take time to reflect on your Vision, Mission, Values and Goals

As discussed in the last post I am working through Gary Ryan Blair’s Personal Strategic Planning Process.

I think it is an opportune time to do so. For many of us the last time we may have looked at our goals was in the New Year – way back in January.  By now we are nearly half way through 2016! Now is a good time to reflect on how the first half of the year has gone. How much progress have you made towards achieving our goals? What are you going to commit yourself to achieve by the end of 2016?

I found working through Gary Ryan Blair’s Personal Strategic Plan a great way for me to refresh my Vision, Mission, Values and Goals and define what is really important to me.

One thing that I have learned in life is the importance of simplicity. Forget about having 20 goals right now and struggling to achieve all of them. Having too many goals will result in your being unfocused, stressed or confused. The result will be that you will make little progress on anything and your life will stagnate.

Have at most 3 goals you are working on right now. Identify your WIGs (Wildly Important Goals). Think of your most important WIG right now. How would your life change for the better if you achieved your most important WIG by the end of 2016? Focusing on one wildly important goal is like punching one finger through a sheet of paper—all your strength goes into making that hole.  Visualise yourself at the end of 2016 after having achieved your most important WIG.  How does that feel for you? Let yourself feel the pride of having achieved your most important WIG.
I challenge you to focus all your energy on that one goal until it is done.

Thought to reflect on:

“Personal development is a lifelong pursuit because life is a work in progress. You never totally arrive; there’s always some polishing to do, knowledge to gain, and love to deepen. Self development ends only when we run out of time. You are, and will always be, a self in evolution.” Gary Ryan Blair, Personal Strategic Plan.
